The current video game market is sorely lacking in accessible games of good quality, so the two blind founders of Out of Sight Games decided to make their own. Out of Sight Games is a small, indie game company that concentrates on making games for the blind and visually impaired.
The accessibility aspect makes Out of Sight Games unique, but the current market for accessible games is incredibly small, and there is not enough consideration for the needs of blind gamers. Out of Sight Games' current identity also lacks any versatility and is too complex, and pigeonholes itself into resembling only one kind of genre.
The brand identity must be revitalized to have an energetic, modern, but approachable feel in order to compete in this huge industry, not only to engage their target audience, but to be appealing to sighted gamers as well. It must also be greatly simplified to work across multiple applications.
The design of a website for the blind and visually impaired requires careful attention. The colorblind require a high contrast color palette and for text on background colors to be color tested. The visually impaired require lots of spacing and large text size. The blind must use text to speech software, so links must be kept to a minimum and very specific. Alt tags are also used extensively to help transcribe images to screen reader users.
Since the blind and visually impaired cannot be as easily reached with conventional methods, a different approach must be taken. Using their heightened senses of hearing and touch to our advantage, an interactive kiosk placed in an ambient space would not only entice blind people to come interact, but sighted people as well. The kiosk would be equipped with key features that work with the rich soundscape of A Hero's Call.
